Obesity Increases Risk of Cancer

Obesity or being overweight increases the risk of various forms of cancer. Results of recent studies released by the Lancet medical journal in London, showed excess weight can increase the risk of cancer among the bladder, uterus and esophagus.
Although the study mentioned the link between overweight and cancer risk, but there is no definitive proof showing the weight gain can lead to cancer.
The researchers collected data from 141 studies and considered more types of cancers and more diverse population than previous studies. The study included more than 28,000 cases of cancer in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
The study participants, both excessive weigh and normal body weighed, examined for 9 to 15 years. Researchers studied their body mass index and correlation with cancer cases that arise.
From the study known weigh over 15 pounds of normal body weight among men may increase the risk of kidney cancer in up to 24 percent and the esophagus by 52 percent. While excess weight gain to 13 pounds above the normal weigh among women at increased risk of uterine cancer and bladder up to 60 percent.
In the Asian population, there are tighter link between body mass index increases in risk of breast cancer. The scientists have not been sure how being overweight can make people vulnerable to cancer.
